Kyoto Gaidai Nishi High School is accepting applications for the position of FULL-TIME ENGLISH TEACHER in the Course of International and Cultural Studies beginning April 1st, 2024. The position is contracted for one year (renewable) to teach Monday through Friday, up to 16 class-hours per week, as well as a few weekends throughout the year. Further responsibilities may include homeroom, curriculum design, chaperoning domestic and abroad trips, committee/department duties, course and school promotion, as well as other requests made as a member of the school faculty. Requirements for this position include proficient use of English and a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. The applicant must also be certified to teach English as a second or other language in either Japan or another country. To be considered for an interview after applying, the applicant MUST CURRENTLY RESIDE IN JAPAN. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years experience teaching in a high school in Japan, will have completed a master’s degree in TESOL (or equivalent) by the start of the contract, has experience preparing students for and chaperoning abroad trips, has experience in curriculum design, is comfortable using technology in the classroom, and is comfortable communicating in Japanese on a daily basis.
Salary conditions are as follows: * 300,000/month first year (non-negotiable) with incremental annual increases in accordance with school policies, * 3-month salary bonus paid in 3 installments with incremental annual increases in accordance with school policies, * Housing allowance of 20,000/month (30,000 with dependents), * Transportation paid every 6 months in accordance with school policies, * Other allowances in accordance with school policies, * Optional enrollment into the Shigaku Kyosai health insurance and pension system.
